The Heuer Monaco is one of the most iconic designs ever to have come from the already iconic Heuer brand. The Monaco is a timepiece that is closely associated with motor racing, as well as with the actor Steve McQueen who wore the Heuer 1133B in the classic 1971 racing film "Le Mans".

The Heuer Monaco reference 1133 was part of a trio of watches that Heuer introduced in the year 1969 to house their then-new line of automatic chronograph movements. Heuer in joint partnership with Hamilton, Breitling, Buren, and Dubois-Depraz created and introduced the caliber 11 movements in 1969 to develop the first automatic chronograph movement. 

While the watch was totally discontinued in the 1970s due to poor sales, in modern times we've wised up and are thankful to have current versions of the beloved square oddity sitting on retail shelves today. Here we have one of those contemporary pieces, with all its accompanying vintage charm.

CASE & BRACELET

The mostly square stainless steel case measures 38-millimeters and is in excellent condition, showing only minimal signs of previous use. One of the many brilliant details on the Monaco is the curved case sides, which give a certain softness to a shape that's necessarily all edges. It features short lugs holding a black leather strap and Tag Heuer signed deployant buckle in place.

DIAL & HANDS

The dial is a deep black and multilayered. The outer edge of the dial almost acts as an inner bezel before sloping down into the steel, luminova tipped hour markers, and white minute track. The layers continue as the dial sinks into the inner circle and the 3 sub-registers. The hands are shining steel filled with white luminova, making the watch as legible as it is beautiful.
