Porsche Design by Orfina watches were produced from the late 1970s into the 1980s. The Porsche Design timepieces have become icons and have also received a cult-like following due to their automotive association as well as some memorable Hollywood appearances. An early PVD day-date chronograph is seen on the wrist of LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell played by Tom Cruise in the hit movie "Top Gun" who is wearing an example made by Orfina and branded under Porsche design.

This Porsche design used the automatic Lemania cal. 5100 day-date chronograph movement which, from a complication perspective, packs a mighty punch. Orfina produced these references in stainless steel with two finishes. The bead-blasted anti-reflective stainless steel and a black PVD variant which is the one seen on Maverick's wrist in Top Gun. The case size is 40mm in diameter with screw-down case back, mineral crystal, Internal tachymeter bezel, black dial with tritium luminous indexes, day, and date at 3 o’clock position of the dial. It is rare to find an example such as the one we are featuring here at Craft & Tailored with the bracelet and the case fully intact and unpolished featuring the original PVD finish.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent case is in unpolished condition, retaining all of its original finishing with almost no signs of use. The case retains its original screw-down crown and pump pushers. The unpolished case back is in excellent condition. The original Porsche Design is in impressive condition, retaining 22 links that show no stretch.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black dial is in flawless condition, showing no signs of age or blemishes. The tritium lume plots have age to a vibrant yellow coloration and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. All of the hands are original to the watch and the tritium hour and minute hands match the dial coloration perfectly with no degradation when inspected under U.V. light.

ACCESSORIES 

None. The watch is keeping time and functioning perfectly, previous service history is unknown.
